Adoption Process

  1. Decide if a greyhound is the right dog breed for you. We can help you decide - just call us at 512-895-9150, email us at adoption@austingreyhounds.org, or visit us at a meet & greet. You can also read books (we highly recommend Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies by Lee Livingood ) or find information on the internet (www.adopt-a-greyhound.org is a great place to start)
  2. Complete an adoption application (PDF). You can email it back to adoption@austingreyhounds.org, fax it to 512-895-9150, or mail it to:

  3. We'll contact you to review your application and answer any questions you might have.
  4. Once your application is approved, we will make arrangements for you to meet available greyhounds at one of our foster homes or at a meet & greet. We will help you to choose the right greyhound for your family.
  5. The final step is to sign our adoption contract, pay the $160 fee, and take delivery of your new greyhound.

The adoption fee is $160 and includes:

  • Spay/neuter
  • All vaccinations
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Testing for heartworms and current on heartworm preventative
  • Collar and leash
  • Turn-out muzzle
  • Greyhound care guide
  • Ongoing support from Austin Greyhound Adoption
